Dimitry Afanasiev is chairman and co-founding partner of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners, the largest law firm in Russia and the CIS.

Mr Afanasiev specialises in international corporate transactions, dispute resolution and public policy issues. He has represented the interests of the Russian Federation and leading multinational and Russian corporations. He is a board member of UC RUSAL, the world's largest aluminum company, and CTC Media Inc, a publicly listed media company.

Dimitry was recognised as one of the world's Top 40 international lawyers (The Lawyer magazine), has been nominated as European Managing Partner of the Year, is listed amongst Top 10 Russian lawyers (Russian Reporter, 2011) and was nominated for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards 2010. He is recommended by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Legal 500 EMEA, Best Lawyers, Who's Who Legal: CIS and other leading legal guides as a leading practitioner in the areas of M&A and corporate law, dispute resolution, antitrust, banking and finance, investment, restructuring/insolvency, and shipping and transport.

Prior to co-founding Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners in 1993, Dimitry worked at Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis and Wolf, Block, Schorr & Solis-Cohen in Philadelphia (USA). In 1999 he became chairman of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners.

Dimitry is a board member of Business Russia, an all-Russia public organisation, a founding member of the Russian-American Business Council, and a member of the Russian Council for International Affairs, a foreign policy body established by the Russian president. He is counsel to the president of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation and vice-chair of the international law practice management forum of the American Bar Association section of international law. Dimitry is a co-chairman of the CIS Leading Counsel Network, a professional network of the leading law firms across the CIS offering clients integrated multijurisdictional legal advice.

Dimitry was awarded a medal for Professional Excellence by the Federal Chamber of Lawyers and received a commendation from the president of Russia for achievements in defending human rights.

Dimitry studied law at the University of Leningrad, University of Pennsylvania and St Petersburg Institute of Law. He is a member of the St Petersburg Bar Association.

Dimitry Afanasiev is the chairman and a founding partner of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners, which is Russia's leading law firm with offices in Moscow, St Petersburg and an associated office in London. He co-founded the firm in 1993 and has since helped establish EPA&P as the number one legal authority in Russia.

Born in 1969, Mr Afanasiev studied Law at the University of Leningrad, the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and the St Petersburg Institute of Law. He is a member of the St Petersburg Bar Association and an associate member of the American Bar Association and International Bar Association.

Dimitry Afanasiev has worked as associate at Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis and Wolf, Block, Schorr & Solis-Cohen in Philadelphia (USA). In 1993, he co-founded Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev & Partners; Partners' committee chair since 1999. He is a member of the board of directors of UC RUSAL.

Mr Afanasiev's areas of practice include international business transactions, dispute resolution and public policy issues. Among his clients are the Russian Federation, multinational and Russian corporations, high-net-worth individuals and charitable organisations.

In the time of the global financial crisis Dimitry was actively engaged by the Russian government in developing a comprehensive legal framework of the state measures to remedy the crisis, as well as developing mechanisms of their implementation.

Dimitry Afanasiev is a co-founder of the CIS Leading Counsel Network, a professional network of nine leading law firms across the CIS economic region offering clients integrated multi-jurisdictional legal advice.

He is a board member of Business Russia, an all-Russia non-profit association of businessmen, and a founding member of the Russian-American Business Council. He is also active in the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia. Dimitry is the counsellor to the president of the Federal Bar Association of Russia.

Mr Afanasiev is recommended as a leading practitioner in Russia by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 EMEA, Best Lawyers and other authoritative legal rankings.
