Biography: Mining

Michael Melanson is a partner in the Toronto office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC) and the national practice group leader for securities and corporate finance. He specialises in corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on public and private offerings of securities, takeover bids and mergers and acquisitions, particularly for clients in the mining sector. He has represented clients with mining projects in, among other countries, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Mali, Mexico, Romania and the United States.

Michael is recognised by The Best Lawyers in Canada as a leading practitioner in natural resources law and recommended by The 2011 Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory as a leading lawyer in mining law. He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.

Michael received a BComm from McMaster University and an LLB and MBA from the University of Toronto. Prior to entering private practice, he spent almost six years as a lawyer at the Toronto Stock Exchange and the Ontario Securities Commission.
