Woon Chooi is one of the pioneers of the franchise industry in Singapore. She was instrumental in setting up the Franchising and Licensing Association (Singapore) (then known as the Singapore International Franchise Association) in the early 1990s. Up till now, she remains as the honorary legal consultant to the Association.
Woon Chooi's practice is multi-faceted - she manages worldwide intellectual property portfolios for local and foreign clients, including multinational corporations. She advises on all areas of intellectual property, including worldwide registration of intellectual property, infringement and counterfeiting actions, commercialisation of intellectual property rights (such as licensing, franchising and collaboration agreements). Woon Chooi has also advised on comprehensive programmes for intellectual property protection and management in corporations.
She also has an in depth understanding of the information technology industry from her experience as an in house counsel of a system integration company. She provides advice on a wide range of transactions involving IT.
She also advises on commercial transactions, with particular concentration on transactions involving intellectual property. Woon Chooi's commercial practice largely involves cross-border intellectual property transactions, in particular involving China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Woon Chooi also provides advice on competition issues for all transactions, and is a member of the firm's competition law practice team.
