Biography: Commercial Litigation

Mr Ritchie heads up the litigation department of Charles Adams Ritchie & Duckworth (CARD). He specialises in international asset tracing, commercial, banking and trust litigation and insolvency work. He also has extensive experience in professional negligence claims whether in the legal, medical or accountancy field and of late experience in disputes arising from the telecommunications legislation enacted in the Cayman Islands.

He graduated from the College of Law (England) 1978 to 1979. He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1979 and admitted to the Bar of the Cayman Islands in 1984 when he joined Charles Adams & Co in the Cayman Islands as an associate attorney. In 1991 he became a partner in the successor firm of CARD. He has considerable advocacy experience and has been involved in many of the larger trust and asset tracing cases to appear before the Cayman Court.

Mr Ritchie was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2004 and is also an accredited mediator. Mr Ritchie is a member of the International Bar Association, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Law Society of the Cayman Islands and is also an honorary member of the Commercial Bar Association. He is also a member of the rules committee of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and a member of the insolvency rules committee.

Mr Ritchie has co-authored the Cayman Islands chapter for the following publications: Getting the Deal Through - Dispute Resolution; Getting the Deal Through - Restructuring and Insolvency; International Fraud and Asset Tracing; Cross-Border Handbook – Dispute Resolution Handbook; and The Restructuring Review – third edition.
