Biography: Corporate Tax

Mr Gomes de Oliveira, a former tax consultant at Arthur Andersen, is a partner in charge of the tax department at Castro, Barros, Sobral, Gomes Advogados. He has extensive experience in domestic and international tax consultation and planning, having advised Brazilian and foreign companies in structuring projects both in Brazil and abroad. He also coordinates the tax litigation team of the firm. Due to the time spent in the Lisbon office, he has particular expertise in international taxation and planning.

He belongs to the Brazilian Bar Association (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia); International Bar Association; tax commission of the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio de Janeiro; member of the board of directors of the Brazilian branch of the International Fiscal Association; Brazilian Academy of Tax Law; and chairman of the tax committee of the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Rio de Janeiro. He has published articles on several tax issues, in Brazil and abroad, such as his contribution as national reporter to the IFA Congress held in Brussels in 2008, on the subject "non-discrimination at the crossroads of international taxation". He has also participated as speaker in several events, not only in Brazil, but abroad. He is the Brazilian correspondent for the Derivatives Magazine.
