Michael Nordin was admitted to the bar in Switzerland in 1993, after graduating from the University of St Gall, where he obtained a law degree in 1991 and a doctorate in 1996. In 1996 to 1997, he studied at New York University, where he graduated with an LLM in International Taxation. In 2000, Michael Nordin qualified as a Swiss Certified Tax Expert. He worked previously in the group tax department of a major Swiss bank, in the tax departments of two international 'big four' audit firms as well as for a large business law firm in Zurich.
