Biography: Internet & e-Commerce

Donald B Johnston is chairman of Aird & Berlis LLP's technology team, as well as a member of the firm's corporate/commercial practice group. He has over two decades of experience in advising technology developers and governments in Canada and abroad in technology matters including outsourcing, procurement, development alliances and transactions, software development agreements, hardware acquisitions and financings, teaming agreements, licensing, financing, joint ventures, internet agreements and licences, online services, e-commerce, privacy and data protection matters, enforcement of intellectual property rights, negotiation and finalisation of reseller agreements for technology vendors, design and implementation of 'business partner' programme agreements, design and implementation of strategic alliances among high-tech companies and mediation of technology-related disputes.

Don is a co-founder and past president of the Canadian IT Law Association (IT.Can). He is also a member of ITechLaw, the International Technology Law Association, the commercial law section of the Canadian Bar Association and the Toronto Computer Lawyers' Group. He is chairman of the board of Skymeter Corporation and has been a member of numerous other boards of directors. He has lectured both in Canada and abroad and published numerous articles on topics such as information technology law, critical information infrastructure protection, privacy, outsourcing and distribution of goods.

Don received his DJur in 1976 from Osgoode Hall Law School and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1978.
