Energy companies benefit from Pat's assistance with almost all aspects of commercial energy transactions and project development, including acquisitions and divestitures, co-ownership arrangements, corporate, joint venture and partnership structuring, and commodity transportation, sales and related transactions. In his diverse practice, Pat also assists both borrowers and lenders in structuring and negotiating full and limited recourse financing arrangements for oil, gas and electricity companies. Recently, Pat has been particularly busy with clients active in the oil sands and unconventional gas areas and LNG development.
Pat's considerable experience is complemented by his MBA, the dissertation of which relates to risk management and the financing of international energy projects. In addition to providing an educational background for his practice, his MBA has provided him with significant understanding of decisions from a business perspective.
A frequent writer on oil and gas law, Pat has contributed to Butterworths' Canadian Oil & Gas Law and co-authored a number of papers for the Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation, Insight Information seminars, the Alberta Law Review and others. Pat has also taught oil and gas law at the University of Calgary and an international course on gas sale transactions.
Pat is a board member of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation and a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
