Biography: Oil and Gas

Alicia K Quesnel (BA '87, MA '89, LLB '93 and LLM '94) is a partner with the law firm of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP (BDP) in Calgary, Alberta and practises in the energy/commercial transactions and competition law groups. Her practice includes advising on all aspects of private mergers and acquisitions as well as transactions involving conventional oil and gas, oil sands and other energy related matters and projects. Ms Quesnel regularly advises on matters ranging from the legal aspects of day-to-day oil and gas and commercial matters to the structuring and implementation of significant conventional and non-conventional (oil sands, CBM, LNG) projects and related agreements, including partnering and teaming agreements, participation agreements, joint venture agreements, co-ownership agreements, partnership and limited partnership agreements and business trust agreements. She regularly works with tax and securities counsel to assist in the development and implementation of commercial reorganisations and restructurings. Alicia also provides clients with advice and assistance on securing competition and foreign investment approvals and advice on competition matters relating to strategic alliances, conspiracies and abuse of dominance.

Ms Quesnel has previously lectured on international trade law at the University of Calgary and is a former director and president of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation. She has prepared and presented papers for the Canadian Energy Law Foundation, is the co-editor with John Cuthbertson of Energy Matters (BDP's energy newsletter) and is member of the firm's executive committee. She has been named in Chamber's Global, Clients' Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers for Business, since 2006.
