David's practice emphasises complex litigation involving competition, intellectual property, commercial, regulatory and securities disputes in a wide variety of industries. He has extensive experience in domestic, international and Canada/US cross-border cartels, conspiracies and class actions. David has been defence counsel in some of the largest criminal cartel cases and in most of the major civil cartel cases in Canada (including Vitamins, Linerboard, Copper, Rubber Chemicals, Cross-Border Vehicle Sales, Credit Cards and computer components including DRAM, SRAM, Flash and CRT and LCD panels). David has also advised the Competition Bureau on merger, cartel and consumer deception matters. He has litigated a wide range of class action issues including cartel jurisdiction, cross-border discovery, certification and settlement. David has also advised Canadian and US broadcasters and cable networks on copyright issues for over 25 years, including issues arising from the use of music on the internet.
LEXPERT and American Lawyer include David in their Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada; LEXPERT rates him as "Consistently Recommended" for class actions; The Best Lawyers in Canada selected him for antitrust/competition law and class actions; Chambers Global recommends him for competition/antitrust litigation, class actions and dispute resolution; PLC rates him as "Recommended" for each of competition/antitrust and media and communications; and Euromoney includes him in its Guide to the World's Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers.
