Biography: Franchise
Prof Dr Eckhard Flohr heads the franchise and distribution law practice at the recently founded law firm: PF&P Rechtsanwälte since October 2010 as well as the Austrian office of PF&P in Kitzbühel.
His practice focuses on the national and international aspects of franchising, licensing and distribution and trademark agency contracts.
Dr Flohr was born in Blankenstein, Germany in 1950 and was admitted to the German bar in 1976 and as a certified specialist in tax law in 1978. He is a member of the legal committee of the German Franchise Association and the only German member of the legal committee of the Austrian Franchise Association. He is also a member of the Swiss and Bulgarian Franchise Associations, the European Franchise Lawyers' Association, as well as the Canadian/German, Swiss/German and Austrian/German Lawyers' Association. He has been retained by the German federal Ministry of Labour and Economy as an expert on franchising.
Dr Flohr has spoken and written extensively in German and English on franchising, including books such as Der Franchise-Vertrag (fourth edition, 2010), Franchise-Recht (second edition, 2008) Masterfranchisevertrag (2004), Handbuch des Vertriebsrechts (third edition, 2010), the Formularbuch Vertragsrecht (third edition, 2009), Handbuch der EU-Gruppenfreistellungsverordnungen (second edition 2011) and the Handbook European Distribution Law (2011). He also edited the Book of Honour for Dr Skaupy, the grand seigneur of German franchise law (2003). Dr Flohr is also counsel to a number of German, Austrian and international franchisors, start-up businesses and manufacturers.
Dr Flohr has been a lecturer in company, distribution and private law at universities since 1992 and for international economic law at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich. He was appointed to an honorary professorship at the University of Applied Sciences of Dortmund in 2006. He is also a lecturer for national and international franchising law at the University of Chemnitz and for franchise and EU cartel-law at the University St. Gallen/Switzerland.
