Biography: Trademarks

Pedro Bhering was born in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil on 23 June 1948. He graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro - PUCRJ (LLB, in 1974). He is the founding partner of the firm Bhering Advogados and is responsible for the creation, consolidation and maintenance of an international network of associated law firms and the in-house legal department of companies, with which the firm has a continuous professional relationship.

He is a specialist in trademarks, licensing, copyrights, rights of publicity, unfair competition, franchising, litigation and international transactions.

Pedro Bhering is the author of several articles regarding issues concerning trademarks and litigation in national and foreign newspapers and publications, such as Valor Econíômico, O Globo, Gazeta Mercantil, Folha de São Paulo, Aspatore Publishers, Corporate INTL, and Trademark World, among others. On November 5 2011 the Italian city of Vicenza hosted the congress 'Trasferire tecnologia per crescere: La via dei BRICs', which was promoted by Studio Bonini in collaboration with Fondazione CUOA. The objective of the meeting was to provide practical tools to address the new BRIC markets, from insights of international experts on technology transfer. Pedro Bhering was invited as a lecturer to the event. He gave a presentation entitled 'Transfer of Technology in Brazil: strategies and opportunities'.

Furthermore, Pedro Bhering was recognised in the as Band 1 in the Chambers Global 2011 ranking of the leading Brazilian lawyers in the area of intellectual property. According to the Chambers guide, he "draws business from a wide geographic sphere and efficiently handles cross-border requests from international clients". The guide also cites that Mr Bhering "has been representing FIFA and the International Olympic Committee for several years" and that sources enthusiastically report that "he is obsessed with the quality of his work, extremely reliable and very familiar with the European modus operandi".

He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association; ABPI - Brazilian Intellectual Property Association; ABAPI - The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Agents Association; ASIPI - Asociación Interamericana de la Propiedad Industrial; INTA - International Trademark Association; AIPPI - International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property; and AEA - Associación Europea de Abogados.

Since 1983, he has participated in most conferences offered by the above entities in Brazil and abroad.
