Biography: Aviation

Catherine A Pawluch is a partner in the Toronto office of Davis LLP. She is one of Canada's leading transportation lawyers. She specialises in aviation law, competition (antitrust) and foreign investment law. Catherine practises air law generally, with a focus on regulatory and commercial matters. Catherine advises air carriers with respect to licensing and other regulatory approvals required to operate in Canada. She also represents air carriers in regulatory proceedings before the Canadian Transportation Agency and other administrative tribunals and with respect to aircraft lease disputes and repossession proceedings.

In the independently-researched UK legal directory, Guide to the World's Leading Aviation Lawyers (6th edition), Catherine is named as one of Canada's leading practitioners in the field. Catherine has been recognised as a top transportation and aviation lawyer in The Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert's Guide to the Top 100 Industry Specialists in Canada and the Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. She has also been designated as one of the country's most frequently recommended transportation lawyers in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.

Catherine is a frequent speaker on international aviation panels. She was invited to speak on an international antitrust panel at the American Bar Association Annual Conference in Chicago (2009). She presented the Canadian perspective on Open Skies and Airline Mergers: What Will Become of the Global Airline Industry?. She was also invited to speak on Canada's proposed Air Passenger Rights Laws at the International Bar Association Conference in Madrid (2009) and presented on Canada's new Foreign Ownership Rules Affecting Air Carriers at the IBA Conference in Vancouver (2010).

Catherine was the first Canadian to be elected as president of the US-based Transportation Lawyers Association (TLA), she is also the first person to have held the position of president in the leading transport bar associations of both Canada and America. Catherine has also been selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Catherine received her JD in law from Osgoode Hall Law School (Toronto) and a Master of Arts Degree (Economics) from McGill University (Montreal).
