Dr Zhan has practised law for over 15 years, with a special focus on insurance law and competition law. Under his leadership, Grandall has become the biggest insurance team in China providing a full-service for the insurance industry. His insurance law practice includes developing new insurance products, localising insurance products, the use of insurance funds, insurance corporate compliance, set-up of insurance institutions, claim and subrogation. His clients include major Chinese insurance groups as well as prominent global insurance companies. He has dealt with cases regarding property insurance, life insurance, aviation insurance, marine insurance and extended warranty. He has been recognised numerous times by Chambers & Partners, ALB, Asian Law and Practice and others, as one of China's leading insurance lawyers. Under his leadership, Grandall Law Firm received the 2009 and 2010 Chambers China Awards: Insurance Firm of the Year. In 2009, he was elected as the vice chairman of the compulsory traffic-accident liability insurance consulting committee by the Insurance Association of China. He is the only attorney serving on the committee. In the field of competition law, Dr Zhan Hao is a pioneer as well. Dealing with cases that involve cartel ban, abuse of dominant position and concentration control, Dr Zhan has gathered rich experience and is recognised by MOFCOM as one of the most authoritative specialists in the field of completion law and has been consulted by regulatory authorities many times with regard to issues in antitrust review on concentrations. Dr Zhan is an arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and he also serves as the deputy chairman of the international law practice committee of ALL China Lawyers Association (ACLA).
Dr Zhan has given lectures on insurance law for the official training website of the Ministry of Commerce of PRC. He is an adjunct professor of the University of Central Finance and Economics School of Law.
Dr Zhan received a doctoral degree in law from Peking University School of Law. He participated in the China-Europe Union Judiciary and Legal Cooperation programme to study EU law as a visiting scholar.
