Biography: Competition

Mauro Grinberg was a commissioner of CADE, the supreme decision-making competition agency in Brazil, from 1986 to 1990, at a time when CADE was beginning to assume its role. He is also a former attorney of the National Treasury. He is a University of São Paulo graduate and has a master's degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco.

His practice encompasses both merger control and antitrust litigation on behavioural matters, including counselling. A small part of his time is dedicated to trade law, consumer protection and public bids.

Mauro Grinberg has always been very active in IBRAC (www.ibrac.org.br), the think tank that studies and publicises antitrust matters, organising seminars and workshops. He has been chosen as the organisation's president for 2008/2009.

He joined Araújo e Policastro in April 2000, after a successful career in public and private practice, and in September 2007 moved with his whole team to Barcellos Tucunduva. Finally, and again with his team, plus having as partners his two senior associates, he opened Grinberg, Cordovil e Barros Advogados. He has always worked with very important clients, some of which are publicly known (eventually mentioned in the Official Gazette), such as Siemens, Solvay, Visa, Shell, Google, Merck, Linde, ArvinMeritor, HBO and others. Under the leadership of Mauro Grinberg, all three firms became well known nationally and internationally, featuring the GCR 100.

Mauro Grinberg has contributed articles to many Brazilian and international publications (including Global Competition Review's Cartel Regulation and The Antitrust Review of the Americas) and has made speeches in many conferences and workshops, including those of the IBA, ABA, CADE and IBRAC.
