He is a fellow of the Association of Arbitrators of South Africa and regularly appears in the Labour Court, employment tribunals and occupational health and safety forums. He also conducts his own appearances in the High Court in civil litigation matters when appropriate.
Johan has extensive experience in corporate re-structuring, providing advice in dealing with collective bargaining cases, including strikes and lockouts, discrimination law and dealing with disciplinary and litigation proceedings concerning all employment issues. Advising clients relating to retirement funds and medical aid also forms part of his practice.
Johan has specialised experience and expertise in dealing with the unique employment arrangements and issues specific to mining companies and local government. He also has a proven track record in advising leading global corporations in respect of the employment issues flowing from mergers and acquisitions, workforce reduction programmes, transfers of undertakings and going concerns, harmonisation of employee benefits as well as cross-border arrangements.
Johan is regularly invited to deliver addresses at seminars and conferences dealing with his areas of expertise. He is an active member of the South African Society of Labour Lawyers (SASLAW) and also contributes to SASLAW's pro bono scheme at the Labour Court. He is a member of the International Bar Association.
