In 1974, he was called to the Paris Bar and began his career with the Paris firm Gide Loyrette Nouel. By 1981, he had become a partner and was placed in charge of the firm's labour law department. He went on to represent the legal profession's interests in various capacities: from 1994 to 1996 as a member of the Counseil de l'Ordre (Bar Council); as co-chairman of the Paris Bar's labour law commission (1993 to 1999); and as secretary of its practice commission (Secrétaire de la Commission de l'exercice). From 2001 to 2003, he chaired the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA), an international body made up of 400 labour lawyers.
He set up and chairs an association known as AvoSial, which brings together 300 French lawyers specialised in labour law.
Hubert Flichy is an expert in collective disputes and advises French and foreign firms both on restructuring operations and on collective disputes on branch-wide and company level, instigated by staff representative bodies or by trade unions. Other areas of expertise are advice on electoral disputes and the penal aspects of labour law.
Hubert Flichy is the author of Licenciement and Représentants de commerce, both published by Editions Delmas, and contributes a monthly column to Capital. He is frequently called upon by the media to comment on labour law developments.
