Juan has been a member of the College of Lawyers of Madrid since 1967, and is a member of the Colleges of Pamplona and Barcelona. He is a professor of Employment Law at the University of Madrid (Complutense), and was chairman of the University Institute Euroforum, El Escorial. He was the deputy chairman of the Spanish Association of Employment Law, director of the Institute of Social Studies between 1978 and 1981, and director of the National Institute of Hydrocarbons between 1980 and 1982. Juan was a member of the board of directors of Spanish railways (Renfe) between 1980 and 1982, and between 1996 and 1999 was a member of the board of directors of Telefónica. He is a member of the executive committee of the International Society for Employment Law and Social Security, a permanent member of the Iberoamerican Academy of Labour Law, a member of the board of directors of the Société Internationale de Droit du Travail et de la Sécurité Sociale (Geneva), founder and vice chairman of the Foro de Sociedad Civil, and founder of FORELAB.
Juan has been a speaker in various international seminars on employment law. He holds the Gran Cruz de San Raimundo de Peñafort, has been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Work and the Medal of Charles III, Noble of Navarre. He is the author of numerous publications on employment and social security issues, a permanent member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Law, and the chairman of Club Financiero Génova.
