He specialises in all aspects of competition law, but has particular knowledge of the chemicals, construction, consumer goods, distribution and retail, healthcare, information and communication technology liquid fuels, mining and plastics sectors.
Robert also has significant experience managing multi-jurisdictional merger notifications across Africa. Robert's clients include AECI, De Beers, Ethos Private Equity, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Life Healthcare, Primedia, Sasol, Wal-Mart and Woolworths.
Robert has been involved in a number of recent significant competition law matters including acting for: Wal-Mart in its acquisition of Massmart; Life Healthcare in its acquisition of further shares in Joint Medical Holdings; AECI in relation to Senmin's acquisition of Cellulose Derivative; Paarl Media and Primedia in relation to Paarl Media's acquisition of Primedia@Home; the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in its acquisition of Momentum Managed Account Platform; Woolworths in its Africa-wide store rollout strategy and buyout of its South African franchisees; Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation in its acquisition of Dimension Data; and HSBC in its abandoned proposed acquisition of Nedbank.
