Biography: Competition

Mark Garden is a director at ENS (Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs) and has 10 years experience as a competition attorney.

Mark's practice experience includes advising on transaction structures, compiling merger notifications and the antitrust components of hostile takeover bids, complaint proceedings involving cartel conduct, prohibited practices and abuse of dominance as well as advising clients on the Competition Commission's corporate leniency policy. He also has experience in performing audits aimed at identifying and proactively addressing areas of concern.

He has contributed to numerous local and international legal publications, including Global Competition Review, Getting the Deal Through – Private Antitrust Litigation, Without Prejudice and the Business Law and Tax Review. He is a contributing editor of the Butterworth's Competition Law Reports and was selected by Global Competition Review to contribute to the South African chapter for Global Competition Review for 2009. He has presented practical training workshops to clients, and regularly speaks at competition law conferences, postgraduate courses and client seminars.

Mark received his BA and LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, and his LLM from Clare College, University of Cambridge, UK. He is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
