Barry has represented clients in the following industries: conventional oil and gas, oil sands, oilfield service, agriculture, banking, wireless telecommunication, pipelines, restructured electricity, trucking, airlines, retail clothing and sports. Barry is one of the few lawyers in Canada with trial experience in criminal cartel cases.
Barry was a member of the executive committee of the national competition law section of the Canadian Bar Association from 2003 to 2009, and section chair from 2007 to 2008.
Barry attended the International Competition Network's Annual Conference as the Canadian Competition Bureau's non-government adviser in June 2009 and the Cartel Workshop in San Salvador in November 2007.
Barry's teaching roles include: guest lecturer on the application of competition law to the transportation industry, University of Calgary (2004-08); teacher of the reviewable practices portion of the competition law course at the Canadian Competition Bureau (February 2008); and lecturer on competition law, University of Alberta Law faculty (1993-2003). He is a frequent speaker at competition law conferences and has written many articles on competition law.
In addition to his selection by The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers & Economists, Barry has also been recognised in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business, Practical Law Company's PLC Which Lawyer?, and The Best Lawyers in Canada.
Barry was called to the Alberta Bar in 1980 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2002. Barry has been chair of the Art Gallery of Alberta since 2010.
