Mr Buchanan is a former national managing partner of Davis LLP and practises out of the firm's Vancouver, Toronto and Tokyo offices. He is a Canadian leader and highly ranked in the world's leading legal directories in the areas of banking, corporate and M&A, project finance and project development law, with a special focus on natural resource projects, power projects, public-private partnerships and infrastructure projects. Infrastructure projects on which he has acted have won numerous international awards from both PFI Magazine (UK) and Project Finance Magazine (NY). He is listed as one of only five Canadian lawyers ranked in Tier 1 for "Projects" in the 2010 Chambers Guides to the World's Leading Lawyers and is the only Canadian lawyer ranked by Global Law Experts for "Project Finance" for Japan. He is designated Queen's Counsel (British Columbia).He is a director of a number of corporations, including a Canadian chartered bank, two Canadian insurance companies and an international automobile manufacturer, as well as an officer of the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.
