Biography: Corporate Governance

Jorge Sánchez-Devanny holds law degrees from Harvard Law School (JD - 1958), San Carlos University Guatemala (1959) and Mexico National Autonomous University (1973). He is admitted to practice in Mexico, state of Illinois, US Supreme Court and Republic of Guatemala (where he also is a notary public under civil law rules).

His practice consists in advising international and national clients on strategies and business legal matters and transactions, including establishment, operations, cross-border and local contracts and transactions, foreign investment, corporate governance and corporate matters, M&A, and government procurement.

Founded Sánchez-Devanny Eseverri, SC In 1996. Formerly (1960-1996) partner, executive, policy and planning (chairman) committees member; Mexico City office management committee (chairman) and senior partner in a major international law firm.

His publications include Legal Fundamentals of International Commercial Transactions; Legal Aspects of Doing Business in México; Guide to Mexican Law & Practice; Foreign Investment and Mexican Law; Mexicanization; Remedies for International Sellers, Digest of Commercial Laws of the World (Mexico chapter), articles on starting up a business in Mexico, m&a, arbitration, anti-trust; speaker at American management association conferences, and guest lecturer on law at, among others, the Houston Law School Mexico summer program.

He is senior past president and chairman of the Nominating Committee, former general counsel, board chairman, executive, employee benefits and legal committees, business advisory council steering committee member, of the American Chamber of Commerce of México and chairman united community fund professions section, in-house counsel association (anade) member, and former university club president.
