Biography: Management Labour and Employment

Ricardo Martinez-Rojas has been a partner of the Baker & McKenzie labour practice group in Mexico City since 1980.

Dr Martinez-Rojas focuses his practice on labour and employment, social security, contracts, collective conflicts, employment litigation and employee compensation & benefits. He has a strong background in collective labour conflicts (strikes) and the different legal aspects involved in labour matters.

Dr Martinez-Rojas has occupied diverse positions throughout his legal career, such as: vice president in social security for the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico (CONCAMIN); active member of the labour and social security law commission of the Mexican Bar Association (Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados, AC); partner for the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico's human resources committee; and labour law professor at the Escuela Libre de Derecho. He has been: vice president of the labour and social security law commission of the Mexican Bar Association; president for the labour commission of the Consejo Coordinator Empresarial (CCE); vice chairman for the labour affairs and industrial relations committee of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico, AC; and editorial board member of the Reforma newspaper. He has also given over 50 presentations at several conferences and forums on labour and social security matters, including participation on national media - press, radio and television.

Dr Martinez-Rojas was admitted to the Bar in Mexico in 1980. He received his law degree from the Escuela Libre de Derecho in 1980, his Masters in comparative law from the University of San Diego in 1987, and his Doctorate degree in law from the Universidad Panamericana in 2009.
