Biography: Environment

Founding partner of the firm, Daniel Basurto-González graduated from the Universidad Anahuac in 1983. He has studied and obtained specialised diplomas and recognitions in environmental law and has practised in this field since 1987. He has developed and coordinated environmental law diplomas and courses in various law schools, and has acted as chairman for top organisations such as COPARMEX's, CONCAMIN's, and the Mexican Bar Association's ecology commissions. He is currently chair of the environment and energy commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC-MEXICO), and is a member of its executive board. Mr Basurto-González is an active member of ANADE. He has been a member of NAFTA's joint public advisory committee (JPAC), and the ten years review assessment committee (TRAC). He has also been an active member of the environment and natural resources national standardisation committee.

At an international level, Mr Basurto-González is an active member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and the International Bar Association (IBA). During his 24 years of professional experience, he has acted for top 20 companies within the manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, personnel, tourist and real estate industries.

Mr Basurto-González's main role is acting as consultant on environmental law compliance, policies and trends, and developing lobbying processes with the legislative powers, as well as interacting within industrial plants acquisition negotiations and agreements. He has participated as an environmental expert in national and international arbitration and disputes. For the last six years, he has been involved in activities related with climate change and clean development mechanisms negotiations (CDM's); and emissions reduction purchase agreements (ERPA'S). He is a supervisor of programmes related to energy efficiency and the viability of their implementation.
