Biography: Arbitration

A partner at Fulbright & Jaworski, Aníbal Sabater has had a full time international disputes practice for 15 years. In 2011, Global Arbitration Review named him one of the 45 world's leading international arbitration practitioners under the age of 45.

As counsel, Aníbal regularly represents clients in cases conducted under all major international arbitration rules (AAA/ICDR, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, and UNCITRAL). Ranging from a dispute over the construction of a pipeline in a Southern hemisphere jungle to an arbitration over lingerie supplies in Europe, Aníbal's cases typically involve complex issues and extensive briefing and oral argument. As lead counsel he successfully argued one of the first applications for emergency relief brought under article 37 of the ICDR Rules.

Aníbal also serves regularly as an arbitrator. In 2011, for instance, he acted as emergency arbitrator under section O of AAA Commercial Arbitration Rules.

Aníbal's practice includes frequent work on arbitration-related court cases. He was lead counsel in a 2003 Spanish Supreme Court award enforcement case that led to the overruling of earlier anti-arbitration jurisprudence. More recently, he acted for a party that prevailed in resisting discovery under 28 USC section 1782.

A frequent writer in English and Spanish, Aníbal has authored a commentary to the EU provisions on international dispute resolution, a frequently-cited handbook on the enforcement of awards in Spain, and scores of articles on international arbitration. He also speaks at international arbitration conferences.

Aníbal is a licensed lawyer in California, the District of Columbia, England (solicitor), and Spain. He is also a registered foreign legal consultant in Texas.
