Biography: Arbitration

Domitille Baizeau has been practising dispute resolution for 15 years, and has focused exclusively on international arbitration for the last 10 years. She has acted as counsel and arbitrator in numerous arbitration proceedings, both ad hoc (including UNCITRAL) and administered (ICC, LCIA, WIPO, Swiss rules and AAA/ICDR), and governed by various procedural and substantive laws, including English, Swiss and French. Her areas of specialisation include joint ventures, M&A, sales, privatisation and investment disputes in the energy, telecommunications and construction sectors.

Ms Baizeau is a member of the arbitration committee of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Industry which administers arbitrations subject to the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration and a member of the executive committee of the Swedish Arbitration Association. She is also past co-chair of the ASA 'Below 40' (Swiss Arbitration Association, 2007-2010) and past co-chair of the LCIA's Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG, 2005-2009). She is currently a member of the LCIA, ASA and the IBA (arbitration committee), and on the panel of arbitrators of the ICC New Zealand arbitration committee, the ICC French national committee and the ICDR. She is also an associate member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law. Ms Baizeau frequently participates in conferences on international arbitration as a speaker or moderator, and publishes regularly on the topic. She is also a member of the editorial board of the ASA Bulletin. Ms Baizeau has been ranked by Chambers Europe and Chambers Global for Dispute Resolution: Arbitration in Switzerland for several years and in 2011 was selected as one of 45 "leading figures" in international arbitration below the age of 45, following a peer review process conducted by GAR.

Ms Baizeau initially trained in New Zealand. She is admitted to practise both in England and in Geneva, Switzerland. She practised litigation and arbitration in New Zealand and France (latterly at the Paris office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) before joining Lalive in Geneva in 2004, becoming partner of the firm in 2008. A dual New Zealand and French national, she is fluent in both English and French and has some working knowledge of Spanish.
