Biography: Private funds

Joachim is a qualified attorney and a partner with PwC in Frankfurt where he has led the alternative investment group since 2007.

Before joining PwC Frankfurt, Joachim had been working for 10 years in the leading alternative investment law firm boutique in Germany where he finally concentrated on hedge funds. Before that he was an assistant at the chair for public law and international taxation at Free University of Berlin. He studied law in Heidelberg and Berlin after completing a traineeship at Deutsche Bank.

His area of specialisation is providing counselling in tax and regulatory matters to investment funds as well as their investors (institutions, family offices), managers and intermediaries (banks, financial service providers, asset managers) with regards to the structuring/distribution of alternative investments/financial products, in particular hedge funds, private equity funds and structured funds (like ETFs, UCITs).

Joachim is member of the German-American Lawyers' Association and lectures and publishes on a variety of before mentioned areas. Among other things, he frequently lectures on investment fund regulation and taxation at several universities in Germany. He also regularly advises German (financial) authorities on legislative and regulatory questions.

The PwC alternative investment group (currently 30 specialists in Germany, 500 worldwide), explicitly concentrates on tax compliance for alternative funds, regulatory advice on fund distribution (including institutional investor reporting, listing etc) as well as high end fund structuring.

Regular clients include first tier funds from around the world, all leading investment banks and a number of German institutional investors.
