She served in the Treasury Department's office of tax policy from 1987 to 1990, as an attorney-adviser in the Office of Tax Legislative Counsel and as the special assistant to the assistant secretary of Tax Policy.
Ms Ferrell is listed as a leading tax lawyer in several legal industry publications, including: Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business; Practical Law Company's Cross-border Tax on Corporate Transactions Handbook; Law Business Research's The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers and The International Who's Who of Corporate Tax Lawyers; American Lawyer Media's Corporate Counsel: Best Lawyers Annual Guide to Tax Law; and Legalease's Tax Directors Handbook. Ms Ferrell is a frequent speaker on M&A tax topics, she is a member of the executive committee, taxation section, of the New York State Bar Association.
Ms Ferrell was an associate at Davis Polk between 1990-1997 and was made partner in 1997. She was law clerk to the Honourable Andrew A Caffrey, US District Court, Massachusetts 1981-1982.
Ms Ferrell received her BA from the University of South Carolina in 1978 and her JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1981. She is the co-founder of the Virginia Tax Review.
Ms Ferrell is admitted to the State of New York, District of Columbia, State of Massachusetts, and the US Tax Court.
