Biography: Corporate Tax

Mr Shachar is the head of Davis Polk's tax department. He practises primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, spinoffs, and financial products.

Over the years Mr Shachar has advised on the merger and the unique capital structure of Smithkline Becham; the spin-off of yum! Brands from Pepsi; the split-off of Abercrombie & Fitch from the limited; the spin-off of Visteon from Ford; the spin-off of discover from Morgan Stanley, the separation and public offering of Pepsi bottlers group from PepsiCo; PepsiCo's acquisition of Quaker Oats; Burlington Northern's acquisition of Santa Fe Pacific; Texaco's merger with Chevron; Comcast's sale of QVC, its restructuring of Time Warner Entertainment and its acquisitions of cable assets from Adelphia and AT&T; Comcast's acquisition of a 51 per cent controlling interest in NBC; a variety of transactions for Citigroup, including the MSSB joint venture; PepsiCo's acquisition of Wimm-bill-Dann foods; and PepsiCo's acquisition of its two largest anchor bottlers.

Mr Shachar was made associate in 1983 and partner in 1987. He gained his LLB at the University of Tel Aviv in 1980 and his SJD at Harvard Law School in 1984, magna cum laude, and was admitted to the Bar in the State of New York.
