Biography: Oil and Gas

Olubunmi Fayokun is a partner in the corporate and commercial department of Aluko & Oyebode, with extensive experience in energy and natural resources law. Olubunmi heads the firm's mergers and acquisitions and capital markets practice groups. She also advises on matters pertaining to project and infrastructure finance, banking, aviation and privatisation.

Aluko & Oyebode is one of the largest integrated law firms in Nigeria, providing a comprehensive range of specialist legal services in the areas of energy and natural resources, banking and corporate finance, project and infrastructure finance, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, telecommunications, intellectual property, litigation, arbitration, transport law (shipping and aviation), real estate and taxation. The firm's clientele is highly diversified and includes top-tier international and multinational clients.

Over the years, Olubunmi has advised on a significant number of oil and gas transactions, including: Korea National Oil Corporation's acquisition of two deep-sea oil blocks in Nigeria; Nigerian aspects of the US$925 million buyout of ABB's Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals Upstream business; and the Nigerian aspects of the merger between Hanover Compressor Company and Universal Compression Holdings culminating in the formation of Exterran.

Olubunmi is currently advising Exterran in relation to the restructuring of its oil and gas operations in Nigeria and provides ongoing advice to KNOC and a number of major oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria. Olubunmi is also advising a top Nigerian bank on the proposed issuance of US$300 million Eurobonds which will be listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Olubunmi graduated from the University of Ife, Nigeria, in 1984 with a Bachelors Degree in Law (LLB honours), was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1985 and is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Olubunmi is listed by Expert Guides in the Guide to the World's Leading Energy & Natural Resource Lawyers and is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association; the International Bar Association (IBA); and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).
