Biography: Environment

Toyin Bashorun is the managing partner of Churchfields Solicitors, a firm of lawyers situated in the commercial district of Lagos and established in October 1998. The firm specialises in international economic law with a particular expertise in environmental law, intellectual property law, and foreign direct investment. The general practice of the firm covers a wide spectrum of commercial law matters, with an emphasis on banking finance regulatory matters, and litigation.

The strength of Churchfields' practice lies in the depth and variety of it's in–house expertise and experience, in its area of practice. The firm is able to identify the needs of its clients and address them expeditiously, comprehensively and in a cost-effective manner.

The firm is presently involved in the education of the populace, on the justiciability of environmental claims and compensatory rights, as well as creates awareness on the need for a clean healthy and safe environment in Nigeria. The campaign is aimed at positioning the country for further development.

Toyin Bashorun is a 1987 law graduate from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK. She was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She also holds a Masters in Law from the University of Lagos. Prior to the establishment of Churchfields Solicitors, Toyin spent close to 10 years practising general law and litigation in the chambers of Chief Rotimi Williams SAN. She is presently a council member of the practice and public interest division of the international Bar Association and the second vice chair of the Nigeria Bar Association Lagos branch. Toyin is also a member of the Association of Intellectual Property Law Practitioners in Nigeria (AIPPI), as well as of the International Trademark Association (INTA).

Toyin is a frequent speaker and has written extensively on various subjects, especially environmental laws and its effect on foreign direct investment; she has acted as part of the government think tank on the reformation of the Operating Court System in Lagos State. She has also written and delivered papers at major IBA conferences.
