Biography: Insolvency & Restructuring

Anthony Nwaochei is the managing partner and heads the corporate, commercial & energy practice team as well as the banking, investment, M&A and insolvency practice team of The Law Crest, a leading corporate and commercial law firm.

Anthony advises a variety of financial institutions and companies in Nigeria on insolvency and debt restructuring and as a corollary, is frequently appointed as a liquidator and receiver/manager of companies indebted to financial institutions.

Anthony is also regularly involved in complex debt-restructuring transactions on behalf of creditor financial institutions and also debtor companies, and was involved in negotiating and advising on the restructuring of debts owed to banks in excess of $127,000,000 in the recent banking reforms by the Central Bank of Nigeria. He has also acted as liquidator in the winding-up of an important shoe manufacturing company whose majority stake was held by Italian investors. Anthony regularly advises on M&A activities and recently rendered advisory services to a local biscuit manufacturing company acquired by a major brand in the African food and confectionary market.

Over the years, Anthony has also advised on a significant number of complex project finance transactions including the development of several luxury residential complexes, medium-sized housing estates as well as the development of a shopping complex at the International Trade Fair Complex, Lagos pursuant to its lease to a concessionaire. He also regularly advises on corporate governance and compliance issues.

Prior to the establishment of The Law Crest, Anthony was the company secretary and general counsel of Societe Bancaire Nigeria Limited (Merchant Bankers). Anthony is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, International Trademarks Association, Capital Market Solicitors Association and an associate of the Nigerian Institute of Management.
