Ron has extensive experience advising clients on the legality and validity of government actions. He has particular expertise in the areas of government contracting and international and domestic trade agreements. Ron has served as counsel for many major corporations in litigation and appeals before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Federal Courts and the Superior Court of Ontario. He also has experience in complex international arbitrations involving contracts between Canadian companies and foreign governments.
Before attending law school, Ron served as a security and intelligence officer in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1973 to 1978. From 1995 to 1997, he was involved in the Commission of Inquiry into the Deployment of Canadian Forces to Somalia. In October 2009, he was appointed lead counsel for the Afghanistan Public Interest Hearings being conducted by the Military Police Complaints Commission.
During the initial Canada-US Free Trade Agreement, Ron provided advice to the Office of the US Trade Representative with respect to the implementation of the procurement chapter of the FTA in Canada. Subsequently, Ron provided advice to the government of Mexico regarding the drafting and implementation of the procurement chapter of NAFTA. Ronald has been listed as a leading lawyer in several legal industry publications, including The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, Chambers Global, Who's Who Legal: Canada, Best Lawyers in Canada, The International Who's Who of Public Procurement Lawyers and Martindale-Hubbell.
