His practice focuses on competition and antitrust law, foreign investment law and regulatory litigation, including quasi-criminal and constitutional matters. He has extensive experience providing counsel on merger clearance, cartel and other contentious and compliance matters under the Canadian Competition Act. He also provides counsel on foreign investment review under the Investment Canada Act.
His significant recent transactions include Danaher/Beckman Coulter; Lionsgate/Icahn Group; SAPA/Indalex; PetroBank Energy/TriStar; Philip Morris International/Rothmans; Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) PJSC/PrimeWest; TeckCominco/Aur Resources; Flextronics/Solectron; and Phelps Dodge Corporation/Inco. His experience in contentious matters includes retail gas (cartel defence), LED traffic lights (cartel defence), automobile importation (class defence), optical drives (class defence), air cargo (class defence) and film exhibition and distribution (dominance), as well as numerous investigations in non-public matters.
Mr Bhattacharjee is currently chair of the competition law and policy committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce; and member of the Long Range Planning committee of the American Bar Association antitrust section. He has held numerous leadership positions in the Canadian Bar Association's competition law section and the ABA antitrust section.
He was appointed as a non-governmental adviser to the International Competition Network in 2009.
He was named by Global Competition Review as one of the world's Top 40 Competition Lawyers Under 40 in 2008 and by Lexpert as one of Canada's Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 in 2006.
