Omar is the author of the Annotated Competition Act and speaks frequently on competition law issues at professional conferences and universities in Canada and abroad. He is the past chair of the mergers committee of the national competition law section of the Canadian Bar Association and a non-governmental adviser to the International Competition Network.
In connection with his foreign investment practice, Omar advises international clients on reviews under the Investment Canada Act. In particular, he acts for numerous sovereign wealth funds and was the lead regulatory counsel on the first acquisition by a SWF of a Canadian business following the introduction of the current rules on foreign investments by state owned enterprises.
Omar is widely regarded as one of Canada's leading competition lawyers and in 2008 Global Competition Review named him one of the world's 40 leading competition lawyers under the age of 40.
