A graduate of São Paulo University (USP) Law School, Mr Del Chiaro was the federal government's first Secretary of Economic Law (SDE) and a consultant to FIESP, the São Paulo Industry Federation. He belongs to the Brazilian Bar Association and the São Paulo Attorneys' Institute, and is a councilor at the Brazilian Institute of Competition, Consumption and International Trade Law, which he helped create.
Mr Del Chiaro's reputation precedes him as one of Brazil's top antitrust specialists. He has extensive experience in legal strategies and risk minimisation, and his practice embodies significant expertise both in merger control and litigation on behavioural matters. Mr Del Chiaro has handled several cases before Brazilian antitrust agencies and in court; he has also represented clients in administrative and judicial proceedings involving commercial protection bodies, regulatory agencies, consumer protection bodies and public prosecution bodies.
While his firm, founded in 1991, remains a boutique, it has a significant structure with a strong legal team and two offices one in São Paulo and the other in the federal capital of Brasília so ensuring close contact with relevant authorities and courts. The firm also works with selected senior economists. This antitrust vocation makes Advocacia José Del Chiaro Brazil's top-ranked law firm in its field.
