Biography: Project Finance
Partner in the corporate commercial department, Philip Backman's practice is focused on financing and commercial transactions. He has acted for borrowers and lenders in international syndicated bank transactions, public bond issues, project financings, cross-border financings, leveraged and high-yield financings, restructurings and other types of debt transactions involving oil and gas, oil sands, pipelines, power, utilities and other industries.Recent transactions have included acting for a major Canadian energy company in a $3.0 billion credit facility with an international syndicate of lenders, acting for a major North American energy services company in a $1.6 billion acquisition financing, and acting for major Canadian and international energy companies and banks in financings for the development of Canadian energy projects with aggregate project costs in excess of $15 billion.
In 2010, Phil has been recognised as a leading banking and project finance lawyer in Best Lawyers in Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business and Who's Who Legal (project finance).
