Biography: Competition

A partner at Bennett Jones LLP and recognised by Chambers Global as "among the most sought-after competition litigators in Canada", John Rook has appeared before the courts of a number of provinces, the federal courts and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared before the Competition Tribunal, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, the National Energy Board, the Manitoba Public Utilities Board and the Ontario Energy Board, among others.

John acts as counsel in commercial disputes, including claims for breach of contract, negligence and product liability claims, claims for breach of fiduciary duties as well as various administrative law proceedings. He is also active in both civil and criminal proceedings under the Competition Act as well as other specialised administrative and regulatory matters, including securities, telecommunications and energy law disputes.

He writes extensively in his areas of expertise and is a frequent speaker.

In the community, John is a director of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival Endowment Foundation and chair of the board of the St Andrew's College Foundation.

John received his BA (with honours) from Queen's University in 1968 and his LLB from the University of Toronto in 1971. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1973.
