Having done general corporate, commercial, mergers and acquisitions, and state restructuring work for a number of years, he now specialises in project, corporate and acquisition finance, and is a member of the firm's project finance and infrastructure group. The group's clients cross the spectrum of lenders, concessionaires and sponsors in major projects, and include public-private partnerships, cross-border financing and export credit transactions.
Daryn led the team that advised the consortium awarding the 25-year project-financed PPP with the South African Department of Trade and Industry for the design, construction and operation of its new head office campus in Tshwane (Pretoria), the first PPP of its kind in South Africa. He was also part of the team that advised the lenders on the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link project, being primarily responsible for the project and security documents, and assisting on various other aspects of the financing documentation.
In the energy field, Daryn has advised on IPPs, a proposed integrated gas and power project and a natural gas distribution and supply project in Mozambique. He has also advised on the financing of significant black economic empowerment equity transactions, including that of Goldfields in 2003, FirstRand Bank in 2005 and Barloworld and Pretoria Portland Cement in 2008.
