Johann has a BLC LLB from the University of Pretoria and an LLM from Cambridge University.
His recent transactions include advising the World Bank on the development of the South African leg of the Carbon Partnership Facility of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development; acting for an international financial services firm in producing the South African country opinion on carbon trading including an extensive due diligence survey - this ongoing project will pool carbon credits generated by various African transfrontier parks; acting for Sterling Waterford Holdings in the listing of their second Carbon Credit Note on the JSE; and advising for the French Development Agency (AFD) in respect of a loan to the eThekwini (Durban) Municipality to fund a landfill-gas electricity-generation plant with the sale of carbon credits.
Johann regularly presents and publishes papers on topics such as carbon trading and climate change law as well as money laundering, insider trading, the regulation of stock exchanges, anti-corruption law, banking law and insurance.
