He further holds an engineering degree (seven years of scientific studies) from the Chemical Engineering School of the University of Strasbourg (ENSCS) and an MSc in physics from Strasbourg University. Former research fellow at the Netherlands' Engineering School of Delft, former examiner at the International Patent Institute at the Hague and former examiner at the Dutch Patent Office.
Marc-Roger Hirsch is fluent in French, English, German and Dutch. He is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI), International Trademark Association (INTA), American Bar Association (ABA), AIPLA, and is a foreign associate of the British Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and of the British Chartered Institute of Trademark agents. He is also member of ASIPI, EPI, ECTA, LIDC and was previously president of the status commission of FICPI.
He is frequently invited to speak on intellectual property issues (in London, Seoul, Budapest, Riga, New York, Tokyo, Bonn, Alicante, Atlanta and Washington, DC) on topics as diverse as: "Moral rights in Copyright", "Comparison between European patents and National Routes", "Trademark infringement-Unfair competition- Comparative advertising", "The Madrid Agreement/Protocol", "Patent litigation of European patents in France, Germany and Great Britain", "French Court proceedings", "Patentrecht: Problem der í„quivalenz", "CTM case law following Baby-dry decision", "Parallel import issues in the European union", "Latest and possible future developments in the Community Patent Law", and "Computerisation for our profession".
