Jim's practice is focused on employment-based visas for employees of new enterprises to Fortune 500 corporations, including scientific organisations, information technology, aerospace and financial services companies. Jim also advises the firm's corporate clients on employment-based temporary and permanent visa solutions for foreign national employees; on the impact of corporate reorganisations on employees' immigration status; on I-9 and public access file compliance; and on outbound (non-US) needs. In addition, he handles visas for professionals and other highly skilled individuals, as well as asylum, family and naturalisation applicants.
Jim is a nationally recognised expert on the complex problems that gay immigrants face and has represented numerous HIV positive individuals to obtain waivers of inadmissibility. He represents a wide variety of pro-bono clients on business immigration matters, as well as family-based and political asylum applications.
A frequent speaker in the United States and internationally, he is regularly invited to speak to Asian-Pacific corporations and organisations that are interested in transferring skilled workers to the United States. Jim is a regular lecturer on immigration law on behalf of the District of Columbia Bar's Continuing Legal Education Program. He also has been invited to present at conferences on issues related to the unauthorised practice of law and immigration reform.
