Biography: Mergers and Acquisitions

John Leopold is a senior partner in the Montreal office of Stikeman Elliott, with the firm's corporate group and is co-chair of the firm's mergers and acquisitions group. His practice is directed primarily to the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, and corporate finance, with a particular focus on cross-border transactions. Mr Leopold is a member of the firm's partnership board and a member of the firm's executive committee.

Mr Leopold was named one of the "30 Most Influential Private Equity Attorneys in the World" in the November 2006 issue of Private Equity International magazine. He is recognised by Lexpert, the Canadian legal directory, as a "leading practitioner" in the mergers and acquisitions sector; The Best Lawyers in Canada, 2008 edition; Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, 2008 edition; Chambers Global's Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers for Business 2008 edition, as a leader in the fields of corporate and M&A law; and Lexpert-Thomson Findlaw, Guide to the Leading 100 Canada/US Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada, 2006 edition, for M&A.

Mr Leopold is a member of the Quebec and Canadian Bar, and an associate member of the American Bar Association. Mr Leopold was the founding member and is the immediate past chair of the international transactions subcommittee of the American Bar Association, and is an active member of the Committee on Negotiated Acquisitions. He has participated in numerous panels and conferences on mergers and acquisitions.

Mr Leopold completed his BCL at University of Montreal and his BA at McGill University.
