Biography: Competition

Martin Low is a partner in the competition group. His practice is focused on Canadian and international cartel, merger and abuse of dominance matters.

Martin is a former senior general counsel at the Canadian Competition Bureau. He prosecuted the major international cartel cases of the 1990s (including vitamins, lysine and citric acid conspiracies). He also conducted merger and dominance litigation in the Competition Tribunal in the banking, energy, transport and intellectual property sectors. Martin has appeared in all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Since joining McMillan in 2000, Martin has represented international and Canadian corporations in the transportation, retail, chemicals, financial services and high technology sectors, in both cartel and merger matters in Canada and abroad.

Martin is widely recognised by major legal directories for his international competition law expertise. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association; co-chair of the membership and equal opportunity committee of the American Bar Association and its international cartel outreach group; and co-chair of the International Bar Association leniency working group.
