As former senior general counsel at the Canadian Competition Bureau, Martin prosecuted major international cartel cases of the 1990s (including vitamins, lysine, and citric acid conspiracies). He also led merger and abuse of dominance litigation before the Competition Tribunal in banking, consumer products, transportation, waste services and intellectual property sectors. Martin has appeared in all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Since joining McMillan in 2000, he has also represented international and Canadian corporations in government investigations and class actions in the retail, chemical, financial services, engineering, and technology sectors regarding cartel, merger and dominance matters in Canada and abroad. He provides counselling and policy advice on Canadian and foreign competition laws. Martin is widely recognised in major professional directories for his international expertise in competition law. Martin is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the leadership of the section of antitrust law of the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
