Brigette Baillie is a partner in the corporate services department at Webber Wentzel. She is experienced in the areas of general and commercial law specifically mergers and acquisitions, various financial instruments such as preference shares, promissory notes and debentures, structured finance, partnerships and joint ventures, construction and operational contracts, distribution agreements, sales agreements, leases and franchise agreements.
Brigette achieved her BA LLB from the University of Cape Town and her LLM (Corporate and Commercial Law) from London University (King's College). She gained a second LLM (Tax) from the University of Witwatersrand.
Major and recent transactions include advising the Sethekgo Consortium as preferred bidder in respect of the South African National Department of Education Accommodation PPP; advising Bombela Consortium as concessionaire for the Gautrain Rapid Light Rail; advising National Ports Authority of South Africa as concession grantor in respect of potential concessions at the Ports Of Ngqura and Richards Bay; leading the International Project Finance Association work group commenting on the South African PPP Unit's Standardised PPP Provisions. She also acted for the lenders to the Grand West casino project financing; acted for the lenders and empowerment lenders to the Meropa casino project financing; acted for the borrower in respect of the Sun Coast casino project financing; acted for the lenders in respect of the project financing of President Steyn Gold Mine; acted for the lenders in respect of the project financing of Barbarton Mines; acted for the Development Bank of South Africa as the bridge facility lender to the Sasol Mozambique Gas Field and Pipeline project; acted as South African legal counsel to the lenders to the Sasol Mozambique Gas Field and Pipeline project; and acted for the National Ports Authority of South Africa in respect of the transaction with Aluminium Pechinery.
