Biography: Project Finance
Brigette Baillie joined Webber Wentzel Bowens in 1995 and moved to the corporate department in 1996. She specialises in finance transactions and has advised numerous companies (both as borrowers and as equity funders) and banks on a wide range of finance transactions, both locally and in respect of the South African aspects of international financings. She has also advised on the provision of financing to government (national provincial and local) and government entities. A large number of the transactions on which she has worked have involved the funding of black economic empowerment participation in transactions or acquisition of equity. In addition, she has advised the international underwriters on several large South African share placements that were placed internationally.
Recently Brigette has advised the senior lenders and development finance institutions on the South African aspects of the Sasol Mozambique gas project, which was financed on a hybrid basis with recourse to the balance sheets of certain Sasol companies and then to the project. She has advised on Chapman's Peak Drive PPP, the Platinum Corridor Toll Road PPP and the Mangaung Maximum Security Prison PPP. She is presently advising Bombela as the preferred bidder and now concessionaire on the Gautrain Rapid Light Rail Project and the preferred bidder in respect of the Department of Education Accommodation PPP.
Brigette was born in 1966 and educated at the University of Cape Town, King's College London (from which institution she has an LLM (Corporate and Commercial Law) and the University of the Witwatersrand (from which institution she has an LLM (Tax)).
She has been a partner at the firm since 1999.
