In recognition of his expertise in regulatory matters, Sérgio is listed as a leading antitrust lawyer in international guides and directories, such as Latin Lawyer, Chambers Global and Chambers Latin America. He holds LLM and Doctorate degrees from the Law School of the University of São Paulo.
He is author of O Poder Econômico e a Conceituação do Abuso em seu Exercício (Economic Power and the Concept of Abuse in its Exercise), a reference work in this field and Agências Reguladoras Poder Normativo, Consulta Pública e Revisão Judicial (Regulatory Agencies Rulemaking Power, Notice-and-comment Procedures and Judicial Review), and is co-author of Fusões e Aquisições Aspectos Jurídicos e Econômicos (Merger and Acquisitions Legal and Economic Issues).
Sérgio is a frequent speaker in seminars throughout the country. He was chair of the board of IBRAC (Instituto Brasileiro de Estudos de Concorrência, Consumo e Comércio Internacional) from 2008 to 2009, the most representative association of competition and antitrust counsels and economists in Brazil, and was president of IBRAC from 2005 to 2007. He has been elected to be part of the deliberative council of IBRAC for 2012 and 2013. Sérgio is fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
