Sean Boland is co-chair of the firm's antitrust practice and specialises in representing companies before US and international antitrust enforcement agencies. Mr Boland has guided numerous mergers and acquisitions, in a broad range of industries, through the federal and foreign antitrust review process. He is skilled in drafting and negotiating acquisition agreements and handling contested transactions through pre-merger second requests and consent order proceedings at both the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice. He has represented clients in various high-tech industries: health care, oil and gas production and drilling, basic metals and chemicals, heavy manufacturing, regulated industries, transportation and financial services. Additionally, Mr Boland has served as lead defence counsel in complex criminal and civil litigation involving trucking, the petroleum drill bit, hand tool, office products, outdoor advertising and fluid milk industries. He has also engineered creative settlements in various litigation proceedings as well as in the mergers and acquisitions area.

His recent transactions include the merger of Universal Compression Holdings and Hanover Compressor Company to form Exterran, the acquisition by AO Smith Corporation of GSW, the merger of National-Oilwell and Varco International and the acquisition of York International by Johnson Controls.

Mr Boland has been recognised as a leading international competition lawyer in numerous publications including Global Competition Review, Chambers USA, The Legal 500, Expert Guides and Washingtonian Magazine. He was also selected as a 2008 BTI Transaction All-Star by the BTI Consulting Group for superior client service.

Mr Boland received his JD from Georgetown University in 1978 and his AB in Economics from Georgetown University in 1975.
