Biography: Competition

Paris Anestis is a partner in Howrey's Brussels office where he practises all aspects of European and Greek competition law, trade and regulatory law. Mr Anestis has broad experience in investigations of anti-competitive agreements and concerted practices, mergers and acquisitions, abuse of monopoly positions, liberalisation of monopoly sectors and government regulation, public procurement and state aid. He also has in-depth knowledge of EC funding mechanisms, fundamental freedoms of EC law and international trade.

Throughout his career, he has represented clients before the European Institutions both at staff (Directorate General of Competition and Directorate General of Energy and Transport especially) and political level (cabinets, permanent representations and governments), in addition to a number of national regulators and competition authorities. On several occasions, he has also represented the legal service of the European Commission before the European courts in Luxembourg.

Mr Anestis has advised and represented clients across a wide range of industries including aviation, energy, electronic communications, financial services, shipping, travel, pharmaceutical and other distribution networks, as well as the defence and construction industries. He has worked on a number of recent high-profile antitrust and state aid cases, including Olympic Airways and on several European law cases in connection with privatisation, corporate and project finance.

Mr Anestis has written numerous articles especially on state aid. He is a member of both the Brussels and Athens bars.
